Our New House (Part 1)

By tristanmitchell

If you didn’t know already, my family and I are moving at the beginning of April so I can be closer to work – I got a job working for a Norwegian Engineering firm late last year and now that my probation is over and it’s a secure position we decided to move a little closer so I don’t need to drive 75 minutes to work.

We searched for a house for what seemed like forever, driving ourselves (and likely our agents!) crazy with our inability to find a house we were happy with. I’m quite certain we went through over 25 houses before we FINALLY made a decision.

We started looking in London, with a modest budget, but we couldn’t find anything we likely more than our current house… So we upped our budget and looked into the nicer areas of London. Still no luck – The houses were nicer but too small or were missing key features for us. Finally we decided to broaden our search to the outlying area around London, and looked in Strathroy, Mount Brydges, and St Thomas – We found a house in a development by Hayhoe Homes in St. Thomas. It had everything we wanted except one thing – A massive basement for me to use for Warhammer and set up several Warhammer battleboards. However, it had a large garage that my wife so kindly offered to me to use instead, so having everything we wanted and being within our budget, we decided this was it.

Last Monday we had our ‘final inspection’, which was very exciting! I took several pictures to show our friends and family, so be sure to take a look.

Also, we were very lucky to be working with a great real estate team and mortgage broker who helped us every step of the way, so I’d like to personally recommend them to anyone who needs their services in the London area:
Joyce Byrne and Lee Vangeel, of Sutton Group Preferred Realty, homesforsaleinlondon.com
Andrew Young, of Mortgage Wise Financial, 519-630-5905
